Content

Good art is a fusion of form and content. Content must come through inspiration: it is the raw material of art, and cannot be counterfeited. A brilliant inspiration seen in a muddy and indistinct mirror will appear shapeless and uninspired. Form is the product of craft. It may be learned, and it may be perfected. The Armoury provides tools for the perfection of form.

Craft cannot be learned by memorizing devices. A brilliant simile is the product of a thousand bad similes. An artist who understands many elements of craft may choose to use only a few. An artist who understands only a few elements of craft puts his art in a cage. Anyone who says "I do not need to learn this; it is not my thing," does not have the will to become a good artist.
