Christina Attard on War

Since this is a drunken tavern, I feel a rant about war is a very  appropriate topic. Personally, I think we should return to hand to hand  and cavalry combat of the middle ages. I don't find these "video-game"  wars that people fight today from far away locations, wiping out  hundreds with the click of a joystick button brave, manly or honourable.  Rather than dehumanizing an enemy that is quite often made up of  innocent women and children, war should consist of lining up all your  men on the battlefield against your enemy's army and fighting it out on the ground. In these type of wars, usually there were few fatalities as  often a treatise of some sort would be reached before all out battle  happened. It is very nice for politicians and ignorant citizens to  decide or not decide whether to fight a war on foreign soil, but quite  another issue to actually fight on a scale where physical prowess and  strength pitted against itself rather than technological advances decides wars. So that's my rant on that!

"So let us dispense with Christina's romantic notions of polite, deathless wars and  rather look horror straight in the eye and let our cause be judged by it."
